Is there a program copy my entire hard drive so I could use it in a new computer without haveing to buy another copy of windows?
well legaly you would still have to buy another copy of windows there are programs that allow you to make a copy of a hard drive but this will only work in a system that is exactly the same as the one you copied the hard drive from so if your wanting to do that for a new computer from an old one it wont work Dont you have a copy of the windows cd?
could use ghost & casper to copy everything to new hd & still have info left on old hd. used ghost a # of times.
Yes I have 2 a sp1 that came with a dell and a sp2 that I bought because I already had this dellema well kinda. I installed using th on that came with the dell my hard drive fried reinstalled tried to activate wouldnt let me already installed on 1 copmuter bought new one reinstalled and activated I jus was wondering if I could do it with out spending a 100 bucks.
Call Microsux and tell them you upgraded your Dell (something small like a new HD, DVD burner, not something big like a motherboard. They see a fine line between and upgrade and a totally new computer which with a motherboard, it doesn't get much bigger than that.) My last install worked fine, but couldn't register windows with the key I had. After explaining it was my copy that came along with my pre-built machine they gave me a new key over the phone. Install your SP2 to save downloaded update time, but use the activation key you just got.
