I'm looking around on ebay at hard drive enclosure kits. Do you just plug a normal hard drive into one of these and it becomes an external drive? Do they work well? Any problems with heat, cooling of the drive?
Try Newegg.com and purchase one of these. I have three and they are great, have their own fan, and stack well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145347
Cool. I have a Maxtor fireball drive that is skinnier than others. It's only about 1 inch or so. Would it work with this?
It doesn't matter what the size is, what matters is the pin configuration. As long as it is a normal 40pin IDE configuration, then you are fine. If it is a Laptop HDD, then they make enclosures for them as well.
