Ok..i know this may sound weird at first but i want to take the hdd out of my xbox and put it into my computer...Although it isnt a retail hdd..it is a maxtor 80 gig hdd. my friend thought he would like it but he doesnt so he sold it to me for 10 bucks and i want to put it into my computer..my main question is do i need to unlock the hdd to format it and if so do i need to format it in the xbox then remove it and then put it into a pc or what. I am not real good with this stuff so any help would be great. Thanks and have a good one!

Wait! Waaaaaiiit! Come back! We need to bash more n00bs! Jk, lol.

Well, as far as I can see, if he bought that 80gig at a store, then just stuck into his Xbox, then you should be able to hook it up to your computer and format from there.

Also, I'm pretty sure that you didn't get a response right away is because most people didn't see it at first, but I managed to catch it on the main page. Just be patient, someone will eventually come along and answer your questions to the best of their abilities.

Come back and tell me if you were able to solve your problem.

I see. Well, I'm not really a person who knows about the Xbox, I just thought of it how I would using a PC. I'll just leave the comments for the people who know the most about it. Tata!

OK..so i now know that i need to unlock the hdd..i am taking this from a xbox to put it into my pc..so it will need reformatted..it is going to be a slave drive so i am wondering if i just need to put it in after it is unlocked and the do the normal formatting stuff for the drive on the pc like i normally would..and do i need to lock it again after i format it? also will the xbox stuff conflict with the pc as far as formatting it? just trying to get this squared away before i just pop it in and go. but anywho...I am glad that someone followed up on this for me..i have found a few answers from this site before and i really didnt want to find a new source for info. Thanks again!

no u wont need to lock again.the only reason it needs to be locked on the xbox is so that motherboard recognizes it.yea just unlock and write zeros to drive thats all i did now its just a slave drive on my pc.also if u dont have the c: drive files off the stock drive and ur eeprom from ur xbox u need those first before u write zeros to it so that u can lock the new drive u put in xbox
