Hard drive is burned

    my lacie external hard drive is completly burt one day i conected it and some smoke starting to come out of it how could i recover my important files

    if the drive is physically damaged than you will not be able to recover your files. but if you can still hook it up without it smoking and the computer can see the drive then you could use any hard drive recovery program.

    was it the drive that smoked or the drive enclosure?

    Also u can take it to someone that specializes in HD data recovery.
    Then again that depends on how bad u want these files and how much you're willing to spend.

    If the smoke came from the drive (you will easily tell because one will smell disgusting and the other won't be so bad) then your data's lost unless it's repaired. If the enclosure went belly up, your drive might be alright - replace the enclosure.

    If it is the drive at fault, (check which brand the drive is inside, if it's a Maxtor, it's more likely to be the drive, a lot of Maxtor drives have caught fire over the years) then you can take it to a data recovery specialist, but expect it to cost several hundred pounds/euros/dollars.
