Hard drive issuse

    Hello
    having bit of truble with my fathers hard drive, it a 40gb maxtor ide its its showing in disk management but not in my computer.
    its shown in disk management as a healthy active primary partition but is not accessible.
    if i format it its will probly work but i dont want to do that as it has important data on is so eny help wil be nice thanx.

    It doesn't list the File System for that drive. What was the drive being used for? For example, it's your father's main drive for Windows XP. Assuming that it's suppose to be NTFS, you can drive performing a check disk on it. That's a pretty old drive, so it may simply be going bad.

    Try loading up a Linux Boot CD and see if that detects the drive and allows you to see the data. If it does then I suggest backing it up.

    HA HA HA done it u used a program called Active@ File Recovery 7.1 i got the whole 40gb back thanx for the help enyways guys much appreciate
