I have an extra 500G Seagate Hd from a junked computer, works fine, (used it as an external on another computer) , I am trying to replace 160G Hd on one of my computers. I formatted the drive installed it, went into Bios, did the Auto detect and rebooted, I get this message."Verifying Dmi Pool Data". nothing follows, can anyone help, I don't know what steps I am missing. T.I.A.
How are the jumpers set on your HDDs? Have you checked the boot order of your HDDs? (I am presuming you are trying to install this 500GB alongside your existing HDD, on which Windows is installed?)
Hi Ripper, Thanks for the reply, I am replacing the existing HDD, boots off Hd. This is a Sata HD, don't think there are jumpers
Okay, you didn't say it was SATA. So you're still booting off the old HDD, or you have cloned the old HDD to the new and are now trying to boot from it?
The existing os is Win7 Home premium on the existing HDD. How would I rectify if there is no OS on the new drive? I formatted the disk so there is nothing on it.
I did not clone the new Hdd, I took out the old Hdd.I was not aware of a cloning process. How is it done?
So, let me get this straight.. You've removed your drive with Win7 on from your PC and put in a formatted new HDD and tried to boot the PC up? That isn't going to work - you can't boot a PC with an OS drive hooked up. You'll either need to install Windows 7 to your new HDD using an install disc, or like I said you can clone the old HDDs content to the new one - it would involve booting from your old HDD with the new, formatted one connected as a secondary/slave HDD. Cloning a HDD is essentially making a like-for-like copy of your old drive to the new one, as the name suggests. Payware programs include Norton Ghost, or you can look into free alternatives such as CloneZilla (involves booting into a live cd, so you'll have to change your boot order back to optical drive > hd 0 (os drive) > hd1).
durkinjt, download the seagate discWizard from this link & use it to clone old drive to new drive. http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...toid=580a5e3ddbf60110VgnVCM100000f5ee0a0aRCRD this is the program i use when cloning 1 hd to another. make certain you clone 160gig to 500gig not vice versa or you will loose your info.
