Other than customs, there should be no issues provided that you pack the hard drive according to the manufacturer's specifications.

    1. Manufacturer's factory packing is recommended.
    2. If you cannot get a hard drive box, pack the drive such that is surrounded on all 6 sides by at least 2" of crush resistant material.
    3. Ensure that the outer carton is crush-resistant asd securely sealed.

    1. Customs won't be suspicious if the drive is professionally packeded as if it were going/coming back from repair.

    2. Encrypt the drive

use proper filesystem.. reiserFS usually stuffs up customs. another good way is to partition in an inventive manner.. and shove all the files in the "unused" space.. which can be recovered by your friend.

you could make it look like a new drive.. original manufacturers packaging apparently unopened.. might attract customs charges or import duty.

these days of terrorism paranoia on international borders.. they might just hold an encrypted drive they can't access. I would suggest you find another not criminal (and international borders type criminal) way to share your files with your friend.

    You want "safe 100%"?

    Go buy the music.

wipe your harddrive and send it to your friend as a gift
he can fill it with bootleg mp3's then when it's full he can delete the partition, and send it to you as a gift
you can then retreive the bootleg mp3's with runtimes 'getdataback'
that way each time it goes through customs it appears as an empty drive
