I recently tried to put a 40 gig Western Digital HD in a 2005 Xbox and it did not work. I used the same method on a different 2001 Xbox and it worked fine with a 80 gig Western Digital... I used XboxHDM and just copied the HD over, then locked the 40gig with the same HDDLocking key. Still not working, I locked the original 10gig with the same key and it worked. ??

Not too sure on that one. Western Digital is one of the most compatible drive out there when it comes to xbox replacements. Maybe you should try it again if you're set on using that particular hdd. As a matter of fact, my lastest XBOX chipped was a 2005, X3 CE chip and a 250GB WD HDD...all was good.

If you are using a softmod, all your mod info is on your hdd. When you take the hdd out and put in your new drive all of your info is on the one you just took out.

He obviously knows how to do it. He got his method to work on another xbox and all was good. There is just something about that one xbox the hdd that don't mesh.

I'm gonna ask your question on my site and see what the guys have to say...sorry, I don't know but I'm sure someone has answers for you.

Well if it worked for the other HDD and not the WD, then maybe there's something wrong with it.

The HD I used in My original Xbox v1.0 was a Seagate 40 gig. I have had an WD 80 gig in it, but is now in my comp. Both 40 gigs worked in a comp, but unfortunately one of them is locked with an mistyped HDDlocking key(dead). The other still has all the info on it, but won't lock. Thanks for all the help tEChniiQue.

Not to get too far off subject but another thing I noticed when putting a new HDD in was that the Xbox's name was e[][][][][]. It couldn't be changed either

Hmm so both HDDs work in the PC but one of them doesn't work in the Xbox, strange. Check if your master/slave setting on the HDD is correct and also when formatting, Xbox only uses master setting.

I really don't know then, the other possible solution is that that HDD is dead. What is the error number? Or does it even have one?

Wow. I tried one last time with the jumper settings and using my eeprom instead of actually typing the key in, and it worked, Thanks everyone for all the help. For the error numbers I kept getting 6 and 5, is there any list somewhere of these error codes?

You did include your eeprom in the folder like the instructions said, right?
