Hello, I was extracting files to my computer and my harddrive hit 100% so I deleted all the files and I have about an extra 10gb used up. how do I get this back to normal? Thank you
I been working on this problem all nite still no luck, I was thinking it was the paging file or memory Im about to give up and just reboot my pc. I searched everywere please help.I never had my disk go over 100% so Im unsure what to do.
Hi, what OS are you using? Millenium and XP both have the system restore feature which could be hogging some space of your drive. Check it and if it is turn it down or off, which ever your prefer. Hope it helps.
Hello,Thank you for trying to help,I have XP, I tryed system restore to fix my problem it didnt work so I undid it. And you were write that feature was taking up a little space(4213 MB) I got it down to (200 MB). there is still a lot of GB missing I think my virtual memory made hiddin paging files that are taking up the space, Is this possible? Your virtual memory may be taking a bit of space, but if it is a set size and not dynamic, it shouldnt change size. also hibernation if that is enabled will take additional space. If you turn on hidden files to be viewable (my computer,tools,folder options,view-show hidden files and folders and untick hide protected opertating system files) and look in the root folder of your c drive you should be able to see hiberfil.sys and pagefile.sys and their respective sizes. Hope it helps.
If you are using NTFS you will lose some size to NTFS overhead (system volume information/security etc). Highlight your drive in My Computer, right-click, select Properties. Select tools > error checking > check now. System will inform you this can be checked only upon reboot - select yes. NTFS disk will then perform check when reboot. You can review results in Event Viewer - something tells me your disk(s) need doing :^) Everyone mounting NTFS drives should perform this check at least once a month (good to do just before defrag).
