i have two 500gb hard drives that are raided together, ive been having some problems of the folders frezzing, ect. today when i cam home from work i clicked on the drive which is E: and it says ( insert disk into drive E: ) what the heck does that mean, like the hard drive disk that came with it? on that drive i have all my pics/movies/mp3s ect.. and on my C: drive i have the os and all my programs.. what does this mean? any suggestions
you need to do a chkdsk x: /f on those drives. (x = the drive letter of the drives). It sounds like you have some file corruption on those drives. Also a scandisk (with boxes to fix errors checked) does the similar thing as a chkdsk.
the "cannot open volume for direct access" is usually related to some sort of antivirus/antispyware program preventing any low level hard drive access. You might need to use a bartpe bootcd, this will bypass the operating system preboot environment and should be able to do the chkdsk directly on the drive. Worst case scenario you can remove the drives and slave them onto another computer to run a acandisk on them.
