2 would any computer harddrive work in the xbox such as a samsung 80 gig ultra ata-133 7200 rpm harddrive?

If you have any intentions of using Xbox live then your drive must be locked. What does it mean that an Xbox HDD is "Lockable" well, the original Xbox HDD ships from Microsoft in a "Locked" condition. This is a security feature that is designed to keep the consumer from looking at the contents of the original HDD. If you place an original Xbox hdd in a regular computer, the computer will be unable to "unlock" the Xbox hard drive, and the hard drive will not be able to communicate with your computer. By locking your replacement hard drive, the Xbox will be able to communicate with the replacement as if it were the original hard drive. I would recommend you keep the hd unlocked, reason beings is that if something were to happen to your modchip or Xbox, the eeprom on that motherboard would have the serial key to hard drive in question; hence, you would not be able to transfer it and use it in another Xbox because it's locked to that board. Only lock the hard drive if you plan on using Xbox live!! Hopefully, you didn't create an Xbox live account with your original hd??? Microsoft has gotten smarter with banning people nowadays if the serial number on the original Xbox hard drive doesn't match the larger hard drive you install. I would use Xbconnect or Xlink Kai, these are free alternatives to Xbox live and you face less of a risk to getting banned. As far as you second question goes, not every type of hard drive works with Xbox. You have to use a parallel ATA 100 or 133 drive and not Serial ATA!!! That Samsung drive you looking into would work........Later and good luck

I have a burning, and I mean burning question? Why is the HDD feature on my xenium OS disabled? I try to load a picture file from the C partition, but I get a message saying that "The Hard Drive feature is currently disabled while more testing is being done", what? Huh! When I try to open the 60 kb picture from Flash, I get a message saying "The file cannot fit." My Modchip seems to load the OS just fine, and the HDD is formatted for the Xbox, but I cannot do anything with the HDD. Also, when I try to boot from the RETAIL KERNEL, the flubber and Xbox logo loads up, but then I get some sort of full screen script error written in several different languages in green. I need serious HELP.

I would greatly appreciate a response, THANK YOU

The hard drive feature on the Xenium was disabled when they released the first versions of the Xenium OS, not even version 2.3 has the hard drive feature enabled...........As for your second question, do you have your hard drive locked when you load the retail kernel??? What error code are you getting?? Could it be error code 5???? Later

I did indeed lock the HDD when I loaded the retail kernel. As for the error code, It says "Service Required." SO for now, I'll just have to turn off my modchip to play games. There is a switch on the modchip. Is it used to turn the modchip no & off, or something else. Well for now, I'll just hang in there and see what happens.
