If no speakers are connected, when it does this, it sounds like a trip to the repair shop. It's going into "Protect" mode and shutting down, to keep from frying something. Something is shorting out. If speakers are connected, when it does this, disconnect them all and retwist the ends, and carefully reconnect them. One strand of frayed wire, touching something it shouldn't, will cause this.
