Creaky, it seems to me that different regions seem to have different protections? Do you think that this is possible?

it's definitely true that different regions for the same movie sometimes have different protections.

As to Superman Returns and the 2 other films i mentioned already, plus 'My Super Ex-Girlfriend', i used DVDFab Decrypter 3.0.4.0 to rip the entire discs to hard drive then DVD Shrink to do movie only. I don't know if DVDFab was needed for any of the movies as i used my laptop for these films and i try to prolong the life of the flimsy dvd burner by ripping entire discs to hard drive as opposed to having Shrink fight the dvd's in the actual drive.

As to Superman Returns (a cracking film, i really liked it) Shrink had it at 60% compression so i used Shrink quality features to improve the picture, turned out very nice

Creaky: Yeh, I also just rip straight to my hard drive with DVD Fab Decryptor. Do you do all of your movies on laptop? I mainly use Desktop because my laptop dvd drive is only 4x and won't accept new media.

no, i only use the laptop for doing movies when i'm out and about, it's not as powerful as my desktop plus i don't hold much faith in laptop burners (but that would be ok as i'd just use a USB2.0 enclosure with a normal burner if this burner packs up)

found this thread after dvd decryptor didnt work.

it rips it fine and dandy after a strange error, but the movie pizelates out at certain points and returns me to the menu.

    dvd fab worked perfect.

    on the error it was

"this dvd isnt supposed to be encrypted, this is kinda wierd"

i laughed, and it finished ripping 100%, burned fine, but the screen just scrambles at a point and returns you to the menu.

trashed the disc, but like i said, my dvdfab rip works 100%

I used DVDFab Decrypter to rip the disk(R2) to HD and DVD-RB Pro/CCE to process it(Movie Only) and Nero to burn it. However as has already been mentioned it seems there are different protections for the different regions for some titles at least and it would appear that R1 get's the toughest for time to time.

Has anyone tried playing their copy? I get "priacy is illegal" blue screen of death and the movie stops and goes back to main menu.

    Thanks!
