ha I just found it funny that when you call XBOX support the first thing you hear is about banned consoles... hilarious!
The reason I was calling was to confirm whether or not using a hdd from a banned console will get your shiny new "clean" console banned... Answer directly from xbox 360 support is that no it will not result in a ban of your new console. So a bonus cause I know I was pretty worried about dishing out cash for a new system and gettin hosed for not buying a new hdd, ya I know people have answered this in other threads but sometimes it helps to hear it from the devil himself right.

How many people sent in defective RROD consoles still under warranty, but that had firmware mods - and then got a different refurbished console in return? What happened to all those consoles with the modified firmware? Is there any chance that those consoles were refurbished and shipped back out as replacements to other customers, but with the modified firmware still on-board?
I called them to ask about a fake problem with my xbox to see whether they'd take it back for repairs (which would confirm whether my live account was banned or not). They said my warranty was still valid so that was a relief.
