has anyone swapped hdd platters b4?

    My parents hdd recently crashed, they didnt have anything too important on there not important enough to spend $500 to $1000 to recover by professionals anyway. However i have 8 gigs of videos on there I would like to recover (didnt have them backed up, ooops).
    Ive been reading online about swapping platters but would like to know if anyone knows of a step by step tutorial and a place I could buy a tool kit designed for such a task.

    ya I found a few links such as the one you provided. I wanted something more in depth, but thanks.
