Hey folks - I have a PSP Slim (darth vader illus. on the back) - and just bought a slim tool pandora battery - this one -
    http://www.pandorasales.com/slim-tool-pandora-battery.html

I have a 1gb Sony mem stick pro duo with "magic gate" on it that I can format. I downloaded the totalnewbie easu installer - file name is this ..14749_TOTALNewbieasyInstallerPandorasmenu.rar

My PSP seems to have FW 4.05 on it now. Are the steps as follows..

    1) put regular battery in
    2) hook psp to PC
    3) put in usb mode (shows up in PC as drive letter)
    4) use the easy installer to install whatever is in the easy installer to the PSP drive letter (I'm a little unsure what to do here but i've read it's foolproof. If the firmware is less than 4.05 will it brick my psp?)
    5) put in pandora battery- psp will boot itself
    6) follow onscreen prompts, wait for install, shut down psp
    7) put in regular battery
    8) boot up .... and it's modded ??

Thanks for the help on this. I've modded stuff before but been off the scene a while - original xbox with enigmah and wii is most recent..)

    Thanks again
    Pete

sounds like you have it all figured out-

as long as your memory stick files are in order, you should be good.

anytime you mess with the flash of the psp you run the risk of bricking, but nowadays its pretty much fool-proof

Thank you, good sir. Just one last thing about the firmware question - if I have 4.05, will the easy installer downgrade (or upgrade) my psp's firmware as necessary?

It will install whatever the latest custom firmware is in that package. So if that totalnewbi installer you have has the DC5 or DC6 in it, it will install 3.71M33 or 3.80M33 and you will just have to update the firmware to the latest (5.00M33)manually by putting the updates on your memory stick and running them, or via network update in the psp menu.

As far as what firmware you are on now, it doesnt matter..When you run the pandora/MMS-it will wipe out the flash on your psp and rewrite the firmware...Think of it as formatting the hard drive in your computer and then reinstalling the operating system

Ah, so I can update the PSP via its standard network update even after I have done all the steps above.... without bricking it or invalidating the mod?

That's right-once you have the custom firmware installed from your pandora rig,you can use the Network Update function to update to the latest offering of M33. As long as its higher than 3.71M33-4. If you try to use the network update while running 3.71M33-4 on your slim psp,it will install official firmware to your psp.

Yes, it is the same premise and will work on the fat psp's as well-keep in mind that the original poster of this thread is purchasing a pandora battery to modify his slim. You would need to do the same unless you have a friend with a psp already running custom firmware that can whip up a battery for you.

Provided you have or have access to a psp already running custom firmware you can go ahead and make a battery-Unless you are planning to hard-mod it instead. But again the premise is the same-get your battery cooking, then run the totalnewbi program to make your magic memory stick and you will be set.

Thanks everyone for all your help here thus far. It has been great. The battery arrived and I'm ready to do the mod. One last thing - can someone recommend a really small ISO that I can use to test? no direct link, just the name of a game or something.
