I am stuck on this one. I have been searching the forums for days trying to find something about this but it is so hard to search for this without getting 200000 results! Any-who he it is... I have been making backups for a while and using many different programs for this and never had a problem. But when I re-encode an AVI to DVD format...it will not play in my set-top player! I am using the same burner, media, software, and player that I have burned hundreds of my backups and VHS -> DVD rips. I have tried AVI2DVD, WinAVI, and TMPEGenc... am I missing a critical step here?? I even ran the last attempt thru Shrink after I encoded it hoping to fix whatever was up (since I use shrink alot and it works great) but same thing.. When I put it in the set-top... no go... any help here would be great!!

They are VOB files. All the programs I have used have a "DVDformat" option and they encode to these VOB files same as I have used many times.,... but any of these encoded ones will not work... even after I run them through shrink... which I have burnt after using shrink many many tiems with no problems. By media... if you mean the discs I am using... I know they are ok because I have burnt over 400 dvds with these disks and never had a problem with anything but these converted AVI files...

ok , lets take this one step at a time:

can you download avicodec, run your file through the program and copy and paste the stats for us to see.

2ndly can you down load vso divx to dvd from the link below and see if you can convert one of your avi files through this program and the end result will be a dvd compliant file or equivalent to mpeg2

if this version doesnt work with your avi like it says it cant decode the streams then download and install the updated version. You will be able to use the trial version update for a week .

this will probably account for all your problems as this reaLLY is the shittiest media in the world. There is only 1% of the entire world population that ever has a success burning with this stuff. Also i take it your burning at 8 x rather than at the 4x that is recommended

I have burnt over 400 dvds on this same media..... never have had any problems at all... only with converted AVI files... so it must be in the conversion somewhere...
