I am new to DVD DL... but lately I have been using DVDFab Decrypter to rip the files to my computer, then using Shrink (with DVD9 and remove layer break selected) with the option "Make ISO and use DVD Decrypter to burn"... However when I do the above and play the movie, when it comes to the layer break, it will hang up. I have to then either fast forward or rewind the movie. If I rewind the movie, it will then play right through the layer break without freezing. Can somebody tell me a better method or simply tell me what I am doing wrong? Some notes: I prefer to use DVDFab Decrypter because it never has a problem ripping any DVD and I just like it better over DVD Decrypter.... I always try to put the movie on a single layer DVD first, which is why I don't just make an .iso file with Decrypter to begin with. I would prefer to use free software only if possible Thanks
For dual layer backups, I use Dvd decrypter to rip. Using Mode ISO read to harddrive-remember where those files go. Then Mode ISO write/locate the movie files-find the mds files, not iso/open/select burn speed, and burn. It's a very effective 1 program process. No need to go through dvd shrink. Newer encryptions will be more difficult. Another route, which should handle the layer break a little better is using IMGburn to do the burning. It's free, and authored by the creator of dvd decrypter-lightning UK. It's only a burn engine, very similar to dvd decrypter's ISO write mode.It looks identical. You'll rip with dvd decrypter using Mode ISO read to harddrive. Then open up IMGburn, locate those mds files, and burn away. IMGburn is also free.It should be in the software section.
When I use Shrink to make a .iso, then use ImgBurn to burn the .iso, I get the following message: --------------------------- ImgBurn --------------------------- Optimal L1 Data Zone Start LBA: None Found! (VTS_01) This image has not been mastered correctly for burning onto a double layer (OTP Track Path) disc. None of the cells meet the 'DVD-Video specification' criteria for a potential layer break position. Do you want to continue anyway? --------------------------- Yes No --------------------------- Can anybody explain this and what I need to do?
saugmon [bold]did[/bold] help you. There is no need to use Shrink with a DL disc. I only use DVD Decrypter to burn DL discs, and have never had a problem. I do have AnyDVD always running in the background, for [bold]all[/bold] movies.
How about the dvds having newer encryptions (like King Kong)? I think we have to process first DVDFab Decrypter to reomove the encryption right. Then What next ???????
safari200: Excerpt from my last post: I use anydvd in the background for those newer encrypted titles onto single layer media. I haven't tried any of those problematic movies using Dual layer media. It's gotta have some pretty darn good bonus features for me to backup onto dl media-like porn! LOL I also use anydvd to rip and burn on the fly. It's a very good background ripper, and helps majority of programs to rip the newer encryption. Nero/Sonic/Roxio/Dvd shrink/Dvd decrypter/Clone dvd/Etc. There's a free 21 day trial. After that,$40,but sometimes there's a discount for AD members. This is the only ripping/burning software that I have purchased. Everything else I use is free.Anydvd is updated very regularly, makes a drive region free, and pulls off cd and dvd encryption. The best part,no extra step. When you see the red fox icon in your lower utility tray-that means it's running and you can proceed with your normal backup process. Dvdfab decrypter:I had trouble with it on the newer encryptions,so I no longer use it.Anydvd will pull them off!
As saugmon stated & others no need to use shrink good free program for Dl's Imageburn & all around Clone I mainly use Any DVD and Clone and walk away done. Any dvd and Clone are very well worth the price.Any dvd is worth it's weight in gold I have yet to find a movie it wouldn't break the encryption. Chris
s7e , What that message told you was Imgburn could not find a layer break flag or an optimal point to do the layer break. You removed it w/ Shrink. saugmon gave you great advice and you just have to set up DVDDecrypter a little different and then use AnyDVD to break the encryption w/ DVDD ripping the file as an image and keeping the original layer break flag. I would spend the $39.00 and buy AnyDVD if you are going to do D/L backups. There are a few programs that keep the original layer break. They are CloneCD (not CloneDVD2), DVDDecrypter and Pgcedit. There might be a few more but I have not tried them. 2 of the programs I mentioned are free and the other cost $. When I do a D/L I use AnyDVD along w/ DVDDecrypter in .iso mode and it finds the proper layer break flag and then I use Imgburn to burn the image file. I have maybe copied 80 D/l DVDs times that I own and none of them have playing problems. ChrisC586, CloneDVD2 usually finds the optimal layer break and not the original but if it plays OK you are good to go. CloneCD utilizes the iso method whereas CloneDVD2 uses the file method. Either way the original layer break flag is there but CloneDVD2 might miss it and sometimes does

@ Car.Mike My Dl's with Clone DVD2 has yet to miss a layer break. But now that you mention it I'll keep a close eye so if I do I can compare to see why. This reply is not to start an argument but to thank you for that info since I haven't run into this yet. As always when I see something like this I tuck it away with all the info I get out of these forums. Also to Ireland thanks for that info I can now see the reason to buy Clone CD it's all cheaper than the X wife and no headaches! Happy Burnin Chris
ChrisC586, Glad all is working w/ the D/L DVD's. I used to think that CloneDVD2 would keep the original layer flag but I think I saw that info on the Manuf. site of CloneDVD2. CloneCD is nothing but an imaging program similiar to DVDD and that is why it keeps the original LBF. That was just FYI. Happy burning.
