If the DVD are original then you should be able to hear audio but if you downloaded the movie then you might need some audio codecs. I suggest you get this: http://www.divx.com/

try changing the ports as ran into same problem but i used a pci card to fix it when using older p4 board & haven't changed it since upgrading to newer board.
so ure saying basically to get a new pci sound card? and the divx codec didnt work...are there any better codecs?..by the way it doesent work with XVID Movies thanx alot
not saying get a new card but try changing the speaker connection to another port on the sound card to see that works. when playing audio, is that off a cd or off the hd & same thing with the movie because if plays with sound off the hd but no sound off the rom drive(s) than you are missing the audio cable from the rom drive to the onboard soundcard.
i tried VLC player and there is no sound but when i try windows media player there is sound? and when i try XVID movies off my hardrives there is no sound at all?...maybe better codecs? thx
who makes your motherboard so can see what version of realtek it is using & give you link to updated driver?
Try downloading some more audio codecs before going inside your computer since it messes up your warranty. ddp might be right also.. well it makes sense to me
