Forgive my newbieness, but I have been working on this for some time now. I am trying to back up a few episodes of a tv show to a DVD-R. I have them in multiple VIDEO_TS folders, and renamed them so that they would go in some kind of numerated order. Then, I burnt them onto the blank DVD-R. However, when I played the DVD-R, only the first episode played. What can I do so that all the episodes will play?

Again, sorry if I sound like a total newb, 'cause I am. But I want to finish this so badly...Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(I'm using a MAC OSX for this, by the way).

I've hosted an image to show you guys what the inside of the dvd looks like. This is one of the many dvd-r's that I've used up for this project. Originally, all the episodes had their own VIDEO_TS folders, and were all titled VTS_01_1.VOB. I changed the titles as you can see, so I could create an order, but maybe I shouldn't have done so. Or maybe they should all have their VIDEO_TS folders back... or maybe there are some missing files... I don't know. All I know is, I'm going nuts trying to figure this one out! Please, does anyone know what I'm talking about?

your DVD structure is wrong. If your DVD only plays the first video file is because your Video_TS files only refer to that first one (VTS_01_01.vob. You need a program like Shrink to put it in order. http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/multiple_dvd_to_dvdr_dvd_shrink.cfm
read the thread..... add your video in shrink.... let shrink make the DVD structure to work...... you should come out with a perfect DVD! good luck!

That might be difficult, since he is using a MAC.

But Ihoe is correct in that the structure is not correct.

Sorry for no help, but I don't have a MAC.

I would use a Windows XP program, but for some reason, neither of my dvd drives sense the blank dvd-r's...Is there a MAC program that does the same thing? Or do you know a solution to my DVD drive problem that will enable me to use DVD Shrink?

Sorry to bug you with so many problems. Thanks so much for your help!

What are your drives and firmware? Are they updated?

    Folken81,

Does WinXP recognize a movie DVD, and if so can it play it? And yes, what is the make and model of the burner on the WinXP system?

I believe there is a MAC forum, but I do not know anything about it, since I have no MAC.

    Best regards,

    Rich

Yes, the DVD writer drive can play DVD movies. It's an HP dvd writer 300c. Thank you guys for your help!

On the WinXP system, what software are you using that does not recognize the blank DVD's? Also, is ATAPI installed, and do you have DMA selected on this HP 300C drive?

    Regards,

When I go to My Computer, it doesn't show the blank disc icon where the DVD drive icon is. Also, the system doesn't prompt me when I insert the blank disc. And, what's ATAPI? I don't think I have it installed, but I'm not certain. And how would I go about selecting DMA? I hardly know anything about this driver jargon...

Thanks so much for your help!

I took a look into the ATAPI and DMA settings and such, and DMA seems to be enabled for all drivers. Does my HP DVD drive just plain stink, or is it possible to still write to DVD-R? I mean, it says HP DVD Writer/CD Writer combo for crying out loud.

    Thanks again.

    Folken81,

I believe you are ok at least on the WinXP system. My Computer should not see anything if a blank disc is in the burner, and the system will not acknowledge a blank disc when inserted. And it sounds like you have DMA activated.

Try DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter in the WinXP system and see how it performs, I betcha it will work.

    Good luck,

    Rich

I tried DVD Shrink, and it wouldn't detect a dvd-r from either of my drives. I also tried DVD Decrypter, and it said: Device Not Ready (Cannot Read Medium - Unknown Format). I think my only options are to get a new drive for my PC, or to get a program that is like DVD Shrink for the MAC (hopefully freeware). Can you recommend me a specific brand of drive/program for MAC that would cost me the least/is freeware?

    Thank you for your help!

Wow, I am at a lose. Device Manager showed ti to be working properly?

Go purchase another burner, but make sure you can take it back, and get your money back, just in case it has the same results, and if it does have the same results, then you know it has something to do with your system.

I recently bought a BenQ DW1640 for $42 at newegg.com, and it comes booktyped (for +R) as DVD-ROM, if you are interested.

Sorry I could not help more,

    Rich
