having trouble with Pioneer DVR-106 DVD±RW Optical Drive

    Pioneer DVR-106 DVD±RW Optical Drive

    i'm having trouble finalyzing Memorex 16X DVD+R
    the disk finish burning then i get an error that says unable to burn media
    i used both the latest versions of nero and blindwite

    btw,after the error ejects my dvd i could tell by looking at the back of the dvd that data has been burned, but it''s not being recognized on my pc or dvd player

    and

    is there a program that allows me to just finalyze a disk since it looks like i burned

    ummm?

    what speed you burning at? and do you have the latest frimware installed? are you booktyping to dvdrom with your +R discs? i have this burner but cant remeber if it booktypes?

    thanks i googled internal target failure found allot of info,i'm thinking of downgrading to nero 5, but the dilema is it's not even working with blindwrite

    have just dissected the logfile -

    - 7.2.0.3b is here - http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php however there seem to be some issues with Nero 7 updates of late (same applies to 6.6.1.4), though it doesn't look like your problem is Nero related.

    - firmware appears to be up to date, however it's dated Oct 2004 so won't be much good at recognising newer blank discs

    - a-ha, DMA needs to be ON for that hard drive, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - sufficient total memory but virtually no free memory. you need to close down more programs prior to ALL dvd work/burning to free up more memory

    - these messages are fine, they're just a Pioneer 'thing'

    - see if turning DMA on & providing more free memory helps.

    as to Nero 5, indeed, DVD burning was only introduced late in Nero 5, the exact version escapes me, but you don't want to go to such an old version..

    Uninstall the drivers for that channel and reboot, XP will automatically find the correct drivers and reinstall them with DMA turned on.

    try freeing up some memory when you do get it all sorted for burning, looks like lots of things running at the same time there!

    Also, for your other questions:
    are you burning to 2 drives at the same time? Yes (this time)

    In regards to the available memory, etc... my PC is very busy.

    I'll check my Nero version and possibly get it upgraded soon. Since I posted last, I upgraded the PIONEER firmware to 1.39 too.
