me and my friend have been arguing for a week now about the xbox 360 running hd-dvd movies...can it or cant it not run them?
fortunate/unfortunate, how ever you may look at it... the 360 can NOT play HD-DVD movies... BUT!! they have announced an add on for the 360 that will.... price, release date are not available to the best of my knowledge..heres a link confirming, this check it out http://www.bitburners.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=227&Itemid=2
do u think its possible that microsoft may end up updating the 360 and just incorporating the hd-dvd player into the 360 in later models?
"Bill Gates had previously stated that HD-DVD could be supported by Xbox 360 at some point, leading to speculation that an updated version of the console itself, with a built-in HD-DVD drive, could be on the cards." that was taking directly from that article, so to answer your question, yes i think its possible....but will it??? time will tell
Theres no way an updated version of 360 will be made with build in hd-dvd. It will be an addon as stated earlier. Can u imagine what would happen if it came out with hd-dvd built in? lots of angry 360 owners It just wont happen. I think i even saw an interview on gamespot with Peter Moore and he stated it would be addon
I read an article in Game Informer, ill get what issue later im not sure right now, but the xbox team said they werent making any plans for an add on to make it HD-DVD compatible. but it wasnt out of sight. Currently though its not on their agenda.
There will be an additional hddvd drive for movie playback only, no games. And there won't be a bluray addon, because bluray is sony's format, they would have to pay royalties for every device made. I'll be backing up hd-dvd, since bluray doesn't support analog outputs in hd-resolution, it will be scaled to 940x540 or something like that.
Shh, don't tell anyone but the XBox 360 most certainly CAN play HD movies! Right here, right now! No extra devices needed! As a matter of fact, all 360's are shipped with parts of High Def movies on the hard drive! The 360 promo movie is hi def on my HDTV. So is most of the clips from the Titanic. I was watching them at 720p and that is most certainly high def. Think about it. The 360 can do 720p. It REQUIRES a broadband connection. It has micropayments built in (MS points). So what is preventing MS from selling you a download of a high def directly to your hard drive? Nothing! MS now can own the movie download scene!
if lucky it would be a feature length film....but i just have my doubts about it truely being a say 2.5hr movie not to mention the download time? but then they'll need to re-check some sort of DRM again, it just seems like 2 much of a hastle (look at the outdated DiVx service) and no not the hacked mpeg4 codec, i'm talking the old rent to play vd's.
