I have sort of a silly question I guess. I recently bought an JSI HD compatible dvd player. I was wanting to know if this player is capable of reading HD DVD movies??

No. Ubid.com lied about the product you bought: it is not an HD-DVD player, even though they try in several cases to pass it off as such. It IS an upscaling player, which is almost as good in most cases, but it wil not play HD-DVD discs.
