after launching a game from the hard drive is there a set of buttons you can press in to go back to the hd loader menu? Or do you need to restart the machine each time?

Im running the fat ps2 with no mod chip,mc boot,500gig hd (yup 500 and yes it works)

I don't have any help for you, but rather a question, I want to do the same with my ps2, but I don't feel like buying a hd that isn't compatible, what brand hd do you use? Also, what program do you use to launch your games from on the hd, and is there a decent tutorial out there that I can follow?
    Cheers

its interesting but i found a guy that gave me a memory card with boot software on it... funny thing is that i can now duplicate the boot software to any number of memory cards (magic gate 8 meg). So ya it just boots with a memory card.(no mod chip installed) I can realy go to anybodys playstation and bring my memory card and have it play burnt games or load games from the hard drive if its installed(fat ps2 only for hard disk).

So with this method there is 2 ways to play backupgames:

    1)with a hard disk with Hdloader.elf
2)with an esr patched dvd-r disk

with the esr method you basicaly copy the disk image to your computer as an iso file. Then i have a program called ESR Patch.... run that and it patches it so the memory card boot software will bypass security on any playstation 2 system.

ok for the hard disk i bought...needs to be pata/ide and needs to fit on your network adaptor. You need the older playstation 2. Now with the brand i purchased.... it actualy didnt fit.... ill pop a picture on here to show ya what i did to make it fit.

I had to pop a rivit off the power plugin to make it slide over further so it would fit inside....see picture below.

oh... you also need a program called WinHiip (i think its called) you need to plug the hard drive into your pc and format it to hdloader 48bit... this allows you to install more then 160 gig of games. After this you can just install games from your ps2....but it is a tad slow when the game is 4 to 8 gig in size....

Cool, I'm going to have to give it a try when I get time(work and school and all). I appreciate the information, sorry I couldn't help you with your problem though. By the by I can help A little on the wii forums, as I've got that almost down to a science, so if ya need any help there I'd be glad to offer my assistance.
    Cheers,
    Bill

As far as I know you have to restart the PS2 every time. A small inconvenience for never having to deal with discs again.
