I have a Sony KP-53HS10. I know it is HD ready, but i don't understand what that means. what do i need to make it an HDTV. I have read i need a hd receiver (don't kno what that means either). On one site it reads, "53-inch HD-ready rear-projection TV (doesn't include HD receiver)" and "HDTV capable: Yes". What do I need to have in order for it to play things in HD?
Your set does not have an HD tuner. That means it will accept and display an HD signal but cannot recieve/decode HD channels itself. For example, you would not be able to get over the air (free) network HD broadcasts with an antenna. You will need something that will tune in the channels and output an HD signal to the T.V., such as an HDcable/sat box, HDDVD/Blue ray player, HD gaming system, etc. Usually, to get the HD channels through cable/sat you need the box anyway so that shouldn't be a problem. To get the most out of the set I recommend you call your cable/sat company and get the HD package. You won't be sorry!
So basically all i need is HD source? if I have HDMI cables and connect my playstation 3 to my tv it will play in high definition?
Absolutely, although, it depends on what resolution the game is coded in. There have also been some issues with the PS3 recognizing certain HDTV models with some games and bumping the res down. You should have full HD with Blue Ray movie playback.
