Hey guy's i recently picked up a 1TB Western Digital HDD. But my PC is not picking it up for some reason. I also have an 80G that i have my Windows installed on. If i go to the Device manager i see my 1TB and i go to it and it's enabled. But if i go under My Computer i only see the 80G. I also go into my BIOS and see both HDD's. anyone have any idea why this is?
Is is 'Fdisked' then formatted? They have to be set up using software so you can specify what file allocation system you want. Then it needs to be formatted. The software either came in the box or you can download it from their site under support/downloads or something like that.
nothing came in the box. I went to Western Digitals website and i only found a Diagnostic program for it.
Sounds like you are running windows using the term device manager so Click your start button on your taskbar. RIGHT CLICK on computer and select manage. Select Disk Management and can you see your disk on the list? How about the colored bar charts, does it see an extra partition? Mez is correct about setting up the drive with Fdisk/format (same thing), incorrect about needing special software because windows does just fine. You will format, then initialize your disc using disk management in the computer management console. Or see this webpage http://computershopper.com/hard-drives-burners/howto/install-a-new-hard-drive-in-five-easy-steps specifically step 5. ___EDIT___Didn't think to ask, what windows version and how old is your computer? Some older motherboards and older OS cant see full 1TB
Then go to Seagate, and DL Maxtor Blast. I could have sworn DataLife guard would set up disks but I just looked and couldn't find it. It is a nice utility and will do WDs.
bring up a run box, and use diskmgmt.msc to find the 1TB drive and format it from there; it should be RAW.
K i see the disc it says Unallocated. everything is pretty new it's a little under a year old. ASUS P5Q mobo do i got to click create new partition?
Yep new partition. From here just follow step 5 of the website I linked. Primary partition, ntfs file quick format, you will be golden.
