I sold a HDD that came with my old ('03) computer to a friend and it will not partition correctly with XP. I can run FDisk and it says my version is to old. Is there something that HP could have done to the HDD to make it propriotary (s/p)? Thanks for lookin' and responding.

Not sure of version of FDisk. But I can tell you it is a 40GB HDD. I sold it to someone and they called with this problem.

i use the fdisk from win98. used it right up to a 160gig hd which is in my system with win98se. if the 40 gig hd win2k/xp on it before with ntfs format than delete all dos & non-dos partitions on it. download from hd manufacturer their utility program that low level formats the hd.
