I am wanting to upgrade my harddrive to a new one (dont have the HDD yet so i dont know how big) I just wanted to know b4 i buy one if i could just grab the files from my already softmodded xbox with FTP and then just put them on the (new formatted slave)HDD and not lock it or would i have to download the locker and use the original passkey for my original harddrive?

It is MUCH better practice to do everything from scratch with a new HDD. This will undoubtedly save issues occurring in the future!

The Softmod process is very fragile and can be easily corrupted, a move such as the one you are suggesting is possible (still need to lock the drive though) but NOT recommended!

so if i could get a locking program to work (seeing as how i do have my whole xbox harddrive backed up , including eeprom) It could possibly work? do u think i could try to use a junk drive first, I have many of them laying around.

    By all means, work away!

I just noticed that every one does things on here the hard way most of the time when it could happen in another way. In theory you can just do a FTP grab your HDD files and then add them to your new fresh HDD. They only thing that takes practice or fine tuning is locking the HDD. I dont know of a program that can lock a HDD while in windows though. If you do that would be helpful. This is not just a learning experience for me but an excellent experiment for us to maybe get a new easier way to get bigger HDDs.

Oh and i have two computers one i havent tried but the other dont seem to want to boot right from the ISO i make with my CD image.
