i have got a western digital 120GB hard-drive and everytime i go to format it, it almost finishes and an error apears and says 'Windows cannot format this drive'. Can anyone help me?
Are you trying to format the drive from within windows and/or is this your boot drive that has your OS on it? If the answer to any of these is yes, restart your computer in DOS and format it from there. If you do not happen to know the hotkey during the boot process to get you into DOS, go into your BIOS, make your CD or DVD drive your 1st boot device, pop in your Windows OS CD, or the diagnostics/drivers CD that came with your HDD, and you should get the options to delete partitions/format your drive.
this is my slave hdd and i am trying to format it using windows. Should I take out my primary hdd and set my slave to primary and format it in dos.
