Western Digital hdds are good. Seagate and Hitachi have also stood the test of time through xobxes I have owned and currently own.
what size hdd do you recommend. I am trying to buy one that is under 100$. And do ones that say they are for laptops work?
I'm sure laptop hdds would work but you're gonna need a cable adapter; in addition laptop hdds cost more in comparison to IDE hdd sizes. I'd stick with a regular IDE hdd. As for the size, I would recommend no less than 200 if you have a large game collection or plan to. Plus it can be used for music, movies, pictures, etc... It just depends on your intention with the xbox. I'd advise you not to go large than 400GB. I've attempted it an had issues with some space not being recognized. A large size I've seen with very few issues is 350GB, but like I said, it depends on what you plan on doing with your xbox.
