HDHomeRun (HDHR), MCE 2005 and DirecTV.
I am having an issue trying to get my HDHR setup correctlly.
For some reason my MCE guide wants to use channels 10000 and above for the HDHR (OTA). When this happens I can't record TV because the MCE guide only supports 4 digits, not 5, so MCE trys to change the channel and after the 4th digit it bonks out and never changes the channel... I can browse to that channel in the guide and that works, but I need the ability to have MCE automatically record those channels. I did find a way around this by doing a bunch of tricks, basically uncecking the 10000 channesl in the MCE edit channels, I change the registry key that tells MCE what channel to start adding new channels on, then re-run the HDHR setup, then doing a MCE edit Digital guide channels, select the first channel, change it to no affilite, save then go back in and change it back, then perfroming a MCE manual get lastest guide settings. This works for a few days until MCE does an automatic update which breaks everything again and sets the channels back to 10000.

Right now I have three vendors (Silicon Dust, DirectTV and MS) all saying it is the other venders fault.

Anyone out there that has seen this situation, or at least has some suggest would be greatly apreciated.

    Thanks

Ok so after more troubleshooting I found a much faster band aid to fix this problem (not a complete fix since it still happens every few days).

From MCE showing channels at 10000:
    1. Closed MCE
    2. Changed the registry key back to 3000
    3. Opened MCE
    4. Went in to "edit DIGITAL TV Listings" (all the channels are now at 3000)
    5. Went into the first channel change it to no affiliate, saved
    6. Went back into first channel and changed it back.
    7. Went to MCE guide and channels are all back to 3000

I have opened a case with MS (I still had a free incident to use up) to see if they can help. Course I am going through the standard.. "it must be the tuner"... no it is not the tuner.. "it must be the sat provider" ... etc.
I think this fix proves that it is only MCE that is doing.

    I will post finding...

    Update!!!!

I finially got tired of waiting around for MS to figure out the problem so I decided to wipe my box and start over fresh... when I first did this I was getting the exact same error... I then downloaded over 100 windows updates and have not had the issue since.. I don't know which one did it, but it works now.

    Thanks for everyones suggestions.

    Eric
