I'd propably go for HDloader as it suppots HDD's bigger then 200GB. I will also go for a maxtor HDD of 300GB or maybe more as i have read that maxtor is the best way for compatibility. One of the main things i'm concerned about though, is that it takes about 2 hours to convert a PS2 game to the HDD on the PS2. At least that's what i have read. I think this is not only a long time but puts much stress on the PS2 console and especially on the laser lens. Tell me if i'm wrong but i read about a possibility to transfer games through a PC. Is there a way to use HDloader, a PS2 game and the HDD hooked up on a computer to convert the games?? And then run the games on the PS2 with HDD back installed? If yes will it have the same compatibility on games as i would convert them directly on the PS2?? Is this fairly easy to do and would you recommend it?? What do i need? Is there a guide on this?? I have only converted one game through the ps2, and it took me ages, Main reason being my lazer has pretty much shot through.. Its much fast to transfer the games through the computer. You can either plug the hdd into the comoputer itself as a slave, or get a usb enclosure. I use a usb enclosure. It takes a few minutes to transfer an iso to the ps2 hdd. The tools u need are DVD decryptor and WINHIIP.. (sksapps.com) Use dvd decrypter to rip the game. Use winhiip to transfer over to hdd. AFter all done. Plug back into ps2 and boot up. There is also a way to ftp the game. That hdloader disc might have it on there to... THeres a few guides on the net on how to ftp to ps2. But if you want the fastest then through computer, if u want the easiest then through ps2. I think U need to use the computer to copy dual layered games...??? Havnt tried through ps2...
i've copied gt4 through the ps2, and it's dual layer. but it took hours before it was done. computer is the way to transfer games. the time it takes to load a game through the ps2, you can load a bunch of games with the computer. you just rip all the games first, then use winhiip to transfer all of them at once.
You don't have to decrypt the game in order to get it on the HDD from the PC I use WINHIIP and when I put the disk in I click on add image then the drive letter that my cd rom is. Takes about 30 minutes to get a game on there but hey DVD Decrypter takes that long!
Thanks for the info. I'm convinced that i will defenitly do it the computer way as i want to copy more then a few games. Rightnow i'm busy with an ftp project to my xbox mediacenter and i'm going to put a 250GB HDD and transfer my music in there. But after that i will defenitly look into that and post here.
Hi, 3 weeks has past and just now i have followed some tutorials/links. Reason why i haven't looked into this earlier is that i ordered a memor32 memory card and dowloaded the memento hack onto it. This way i can copy my original games, put them on a dvd and play them without the need of a modchip. I'm still intrested in HDD gaming (it's also a nice thing to have and make use of) but i'm questioning why i could justify the money buying a HDD and HD loader while i can play back ups. A laser should be replaceable if it fails... Anyhow while i followed a tutorial on using an internal HDD in a PS2, i'm asking myself how do i make the HDD connect to my computer?? Do i need to take the HDD out and put it in an enclosure and make my pc recognise it with applications like partition magic? Or is it done an other way? Compared to HDD transfers on a PC, memor32 and memento is very easy to do and takes more than 20 minutes per game to make an imge and burn it onto DVD. HDD would be about the same time from what i have read. HDD is sure is a bit more complicated but that's with a lot of things until you get the hang of it.
when you connect a ps2 hdd to the computer, the computer won't recognize it by itself. you need to use winhiip to view the hdd.
RCduck7, Would you please tell me more about the memor32. When you burn the original disc did you have to put a patch onto the copied disc or can you play the copy without a patch? Are you pleased with the Memor32? Is it working like a modchip? Any other information you may have would be much appreciated.
Hi Nilram, For now i only made use of 2 NTSC back up games on my bulky pal PS2 using the memor32 and memento firmware. They both run without any issues or hick ups and i'm also excited about the future 1.3firmware that would be able to have HDD support, usb HDD support and more compatibility. From what i read there is a bit less compatibility then with a magic swap but for me the memor32 seems more convenient. i downloaded HD Loader and HD Advance, both cd and dvd versions, i only have this question, is the cd version required to burn in a cd and the dvd version in a dvd? or there is no change?
