are they the same thing? i am looking to buy the denon 2808ci receiver....i am mostly interested in the DolbyTRUEhd feature. Since my HD dvd player already decodes TrueHD sound and so does my receiver, will it unlock the HD sound?
The "a" added to the 1.3 is probably some small addition to the firmware. Otherwise, I'd say, they're the same. If your's has the 1.3, and it really needs to be 1.3a, it'll probably be a free download. If not, don't worry about it. If more of an update comes along, I'm sure it will be part of it. Yes, you should be able to get the new HD audio formats. Read the manuals for the receiver and the player. They may cause problems, if both are trying to decode the new formats, at the same time, but I'm not sure. If it does, try each one, to see which does the better job of decoding, and use that one.
