Ok, I know I got scammed on the $75 HDMI cable but what I need to know now is if that cable is actually absolutely necessary for high definition to work? Do I HAVE to have that cable?

if youre hooking up to a cable or sat. box you can use component cables (red blue green)to receive hi def although these are considered analog whereas hdmi is digital that also carries audio.check monoprice.com for much more affordable hdmi cables. You can also receive free hd over the air with coaxial tv cable if your set has abuilt in atsc tuner.

Dude, return the $75 HDMI cable. A $10 cable will work the same. Or use component like the preceding post mentioned. IMO, they provide for a better pq. Just my 2 pixels.

I agree with both posts. Return the cable and get your money BACK! Unless you are using an HDDVD or Bluray player, the HDMI cable is pointless at this time as signals are not produced in 100% high-def yet... The HDMI cable is better for the movie/surround sound end... not digital cable. The component cables will do the trick and your cable company will provide them for you most likely... so that's the cash STAYING in your pocket. Also definitely check online. You can probably get that $75 cable for $20 bucks!

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers!

Agreed, I picked up a 10ft HDMI cable for 17 bucks this past weekend. Not to bad considering the same length of cable made by Monster is over 100 dollars, LMFAO! I mean seriously, it's almost like someone needs to step in and regulate this stuff, do people really need to be suckered into paying 200 dollars for an 8ft cable?
