I just bought a 37" Spectron IQ TV. I'm using with a Toshiba SD-4980 DVD player. When I play a dvd the tv flashes back and forth from the DVD picture to a blue screen and sometimes a black and white screen. Also, the optical output on the DVD player doesn't seem to work. What am I doing wrong? How can I test what piece of equipment if failing?

can you use the player with component or composite cables?

I've tried using the component cables and those will not work either. Right now I have to use the S video. Not good. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

You may need to go into the dvd players setup menus, and turn on the digital output, for audio. Set it to "Bitstream", or "Raw", or "ON", whichever terminology it uses.

You may also need to enable the HDMI output, either in the dvd player, or tv, or both.
