i recently got an hdmi cable to hook my laptop to my tv. Ill hook the cable into the hdmi 1 slot in my tv and then to the laptop, and mirror my desktop on the TV. The picture comes across fine but the audio still comes out of the computer, even though in the taskbar control says HDMI Output 100, nothing comes out of the tv. Then ill disable the laptop speakers in control panel and the sound still comes out of the laptop. I am so confused.

HDMI on computers dont output sound you have to have a separate audio cable.

hdmi does carry sound,i use it myself.i connect computer to tv from my ati graphics card.which ever player i use to play movie,ie zoomplayer or media player classic,i go into properties on the player, and change audio out put, from system default to ati hd rear out put.also go into sytem, control panel, sound and audio devices, speaker settings and make sure your speakers are set to moniter streo speakers.i shuold also mention that i set tv to clone desktop in ati catalyst control centre.

actually i just used that hdmi cable again to watch a movie, and accidently found out that VLC will take the sound and windows media player 11 wont. then the computer died and when I turned it back on VLC wouldn't and windows media player would. so its just arbitrary i guess. but ill check around the properties next time i use it, just to be sure. thanks amiable34
