Hi guys! My AVR has upconverter built in. It works great with my DVD player but has anyone ever tried connecting the video from a cable box? I have Comcast HDTV and while the Hi Def channels are awesome connected directly to the TV, most of the channels aren't hi def. Does connecting to an upconverter better the picture and 2) what if the signal going to the AVR is already hi-def? (Does my question even make sense?...sounds rather clumsy but I can't think of a better way to word it!) ... Gerry

my receiver has up-conversion too, and i did notice a difference in pic quality, but the downfall is, i have to have the unit or for upconversion to work. i don't know anything on comcast, but i guess it's all the same. i don't subscribe to HD channels, i just use an over the air antennea (we only get here in south texas like a dozen HD channels)
its not worth the price to me.
i will look into your question though. where i work, we have fleet accounts with a few cable companies, so i will ask some of the guys who do installs and set ups...

Thanks Gear, I'd appreciate anything you could find out. We get quite a few HD channels but would use over the air if I could; I hate spending 85.00 a month just to watch TV. The thing is, I live right smack in downtown Philadelphia surrounded by skyscrapers...an antenna will get almost no signal at all unless, I suppose, I could pop it right on top of one of those ugly buildings!
