I am new to all this hd stuff so bere with me. I just bought a new 37" lcd hdtv, I have cable, a fta box, vcr/dvd combo box, and my new tv. What cables do I use to hook these all up and in what order? Thanks for any help.
Use component cables if they are present on your equipment...they should be...look for a red, green, & blue...RCA style connectors. Stay away from HDMI. Whats an "fta" box?.. I assume you mean cable box.
WHAT!!!! you want to use the HDMI connections if yo u have them ok the cable from the wall goes to the cable box input the output from the cable box goes to your dvd/vcr combo unit input then run the output to your NEW LCD set
Component has better video and audio quality compared to HDMI...HDMI is really buggy until they unify format...they are not all compatable with one another. HDMI is only a smaller cable with DRM built in...We No longer connect to HDMI because of problems...HDMI is a format that will not last.
Component does not carry audio signals - only video. HDMI can carry up to 8 channels of uncompressed audio as well as HD video up to 1080p.
I know...Component is still superior in performance to HDMI in picture quality...and composite in audio...HDMI has not lived up to its hype. The driving force behind HDMI is DRM...It is not a superior product. HDMI is expen$ive and inferior...and the only benefit is size...and we don't even know if "TZZ" has HDMI as an option on any of his, or her components. We know the TV will have component...the question is how many?..to establish hook-up of DVD/VCR, cable box...or is there a receiver or other component we don't know about yet. Regardless your going to want cable and DVD/VCR to be on seperate inputs on TV, if No receiver is involved.
I have hdmi on my tv only. Here is what I have for hookups on my units. Cable tv-coax FTA receiver - with coax, composite or s-video vcr/dvd combo - with coax, composite, s-video, componet 37" lcd hdtv - with coax, composite, s-video, component, hdmi
How many component hook-ups do you have on TV?..hopefully 2. FTA receiver I am assuming is a stero receiver?..is it surround? Darn...No composite or component on cable box...Is there (2) coax (OUT)?
I have component and HDMI, I have tried them both and must say that the HDMI is far superior to the component. Not to mention, the component is on a high end HK DVD player, and the HDMI is on a cheap samsung, and it still kicks its ass. Just my 2 cents on HDMI. Its always worth it to try it out.
