Hello all, I just found this site and am impressed by the amount of info available here concerning hdtv and such, so I thought I'd run my setup by you here and see if I can do better with my connections. First my setup: My main computer is: AMD x2 5600 Nvidia GTX260 3x 22" Samsung Lcd's Matrox Triplehead2Go adaptor for surround gaming 5040x1050 resolution through my monitors DVI ports Second PC: AMD 1700 Nvidia 6800GTS Hauppauge TV tuner card, used as a DVR Using dual monitors through the VGA ports Recently I upgraded my cable box to a HDTV model to see what HDTV would look like on one of my PC monitors, and it looks fantastic IMO. It works good for me since I have triple monitors, and only really use the right side one when I'm gaming, no need to spend big bucks on a seperate TV. The only problem I ran into is that I had to use the DVI port on the monitor to HDMI on the cable box because when I tried HDMI to the VGA port(VGA to DVI to HDMI adaptors), I had no picture. I would like to keep my main PC connected strictly through the DVI ports since that is the only way to get 5040x1050 resolution on my triple monitor setup, VGA is limited to 3840x960. Is it not possible to do HDMI to VGA without an expensive module being used? I've seen DVI switch boxes online, but I don't wanna spend the money if not needed... Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.
Nice setup. You can't do VGA to DVI to HDMI. VGA and some DVI connections are analog, while HDMI and certain DVI connections are digital. If you really need VGA to HDMI you'll need a analog/digital converter like HDFury2 @ monoprice I think it's mainly for playing HDMI devices on VGA monitors and apparently still keeps the HD quality. Haven't tested it myself.
