Looking at getting a 50" plasma and was wondering if I should go with one with the tuner already built in. I have been told that some of the TVs with them built in won't let you adjust the picture and that I should get an external receiver? Any opinions? Thnaks
I have never heard that. As long as its a Wide Screen display you should be fine. I recommend getting a tv with a built-in DTV tunner. The main benifit of an external receiver is that most are able to do on-screen guides. But most of the expensive HD-Built-in TVs enclude this feature aswell. FYI: [bold]All tvs 36" and larger where mandated (by the FCC) to encorporate DTV tunners by July 1st of this year, 2005[/bold] (50% of 25" to 35" tvs)! So if the TV doesn't have a built-in tunner you may want to ask how long its been on the shelf. All manufatures have put DTV tunners in their [bold]new model[/bold] 36" and larger tvs as of that date. Ced

@diabolos: Didn't want to start a new thread, but since this is somewhat on the same topic, I figured I'd just add to it. I just got my Samsung HDTV tuner SIR-T451 hooked up to my HDTV ready Samsung 27" Flat Screen TV. I'm getting great reception, although standing up every now and then to get maximum clarity because I changed the channel is a bit of a hassle, but no biggie. Question: I've tried the setup for 16:9 and 4:3, but I always get the black bars on the side, which I really don't mind, just a minor irritation. What gets me is that on the top half of the screen, the picture is slanting. Not major deformity or the like, not even worth a mention, but it is quite noticeable. Any incite? Thanks in advance!
Which Samsung TV did you get? This one: http://product.samsung.com/cgi-bin/nabc/product/b2c_product_detail.jsp?eUser=&prod_id=TXR2765AX/XAA If so, try changing the aspect ratio on the TV to fullscreen or fillscreen mode. And make sure the DTV tuner knows a 4:3 television is connected to it. Ced
@diabolos: Thanks! I was going to check out the model last night, but got sidetracked doing something else. Anyway, I'll see if I can change the aspect ratio on the TV. Thanks again.
