Hey there! I wanted to say "Hi" with my first post as well as thank everyone here for all their hard work.

I got interested in modding my Xbox a couple weeks ago after reading what was possible with it. I have a home theater PC with a media server that I set up a while back for watching TV and movies.

With a little patience, common sense and a bit of work, I was able to use the various articles found in these forums to upgrade my v1.6 Xbox HDD to 320GB. Install softmodded Evox dash with my own custom menu (including an option to switch between Evox and XMBC dashboards). FTP several of my games to the hard drive to play without needing the disks. And I have it set up to watch YouTube and Hulu TV with XBMC plugins (and I'm just getting started). The Xbox is able to connect to my media server flawlessly and has now replaced my Home Theater PC saving me space and actually expanding what the original PC was able to do in the first place.

From my post, I'm sure you can tell that I'm not completely clueless when it comes to technology but before last weekend I had absolutely no idea about anything related to console modding. In one week I was able to turn my outdated gaming system into the heart of my Home Theater system, all with only the help of the articles found on these forums. That's saying something, I think.

Thanks AfterDawn Modding Community, keep up the good work!

someone who actually reads the posts and gets the stuff to work by themselves without asking questions that are well explained in the tuts on this forum. well done to you!!!! good luck with your media center, and it indeed is one of the best systems around.... i too started with evox (never used unleash...), but i migrated quite soon to avalaunch. give it a try (install it as an app!), and see how that works. the graphical interface is much more smooth and appealing then the evox interface.

btw. make a backup of your eeprom.bin file on your computer / usb flashdrive! make sure you have it stored, if some goes wrong with your softmod you will need it! but since you were able to not only softmod but also upgrade your harddrive, i guess you know that already.

btw. try the snes emulators to play some old snes games (depending on your age, i myself am of the age that the nes and snes gameconsole were state of the art when i was young) they are fun to play (mario and supermario brothers and so on... nice nostalgic gameplay

Hi and welcome, plus good work, it makes a nice change to read a self-help success story. That's exactly how i first got into xboxes back in November '07, just by reading a few stickied threads by Chunkhead.
And glad to welcome you as another XBMC convert, best thing to happen to the older type xboxes :)

Heh, already did that! I think I'm still using Evox because it was the first dash I used (sort of a Security Blanket sort of thing). I'll probably switch to Avalaunch permanently once I get more comfortable with it.

    Already did that too :)
Have it stored in three places just in case, also holding onto the HDD upgrade boot disk I used to install the new hard drive.

Yeah, that's next on the list for me. I'm about the same age, SNES came out when I was in high school and was the coolest thing ever...except for the Genesis of course.

    SEGA!

if i remember correctly, genesis emulators can also be played on the xbox (not really sure though...)

one tip when you will try to make avalaunch your primary dash (you just need to overwrite the evox dashboard files with the avalaunch dashboard files and rename avalaunch.xbe to evoxdash.xbe), overwrite the files using another dashboard! do not load up evox and then just ftp the avalaunch files over! that will not work, you will end up with a non-booting dashboard (i found that out, needed to rebuild the harddrive to get it fixed again/run the softmod again).

just install avalaunch as an app, boot up avalaunch as an app (in evox) and then overwrite the evox files (depending on your xbox version they might be in either C or E drive) with another copy of the avalaunch dashboard. then you are able to overwrite them without any problems and avalaunch will be your primary. if you rename the old evoxdash.xbe to some other name, you can keep the evox dashboard files there. then you can always go back by renaming them again.

but you have your eeprom.bin backed up, so you will always be able so solve any boot problem...
