New to the dvd burning, so we purchased 100 pack of DVD+r memorex 16x we burned at 4x. Everyone here in the house says they don't see the difference between the dvd and the rip. For some reason I still notice certain things that aren't perfect is this normal? Like certain areas might have just a little more red on peoples faces very slight, is this the media?

Yes I read the forums but it was just late as I was already 6 disks in. On the big screen I notice it but on the tube screen it looks really really good. Was thinking about getting verbatim from best buy since alot of people on these forums say it's long lasting compared to memorex. Any feedback is appreciated, I did an identify on the disk it's made by Ricohjpn R03 don't know if it's good or bad but not 1 skip so far nor coaster. I just have a problem I'll post the shots I got desperate last night I used my digicam to see if I was going crazy or not with this. Are burns supposed to be 100% or near perfect to the eye? Using dvdshrink then dvddecrypt
A little out of focus but you may still see the difference.
Here is the original dvd This is blurred I know but the seat has light reflection off of it crisp compared to the rip.

These backups were done totally just for the video, took out all the languages I didn't need and the menus. I didn't want to lose video quality.

    newb51 hi :)
to be honest the rip looks a lot sharper and the contrast is better to my eyes.
if all your disc's ID out the same Ricohjpn R03 you are one lucky son of a gun. very good media.
memorex buy there media from the cheapest supplyer
    you were lucky

As stated by gurnard, you are one lucky newbie that has the good Ricohjpn on them crappy Memosux. I never used Memosux and never will regardless.

Again, I'm with gurnard too, that your ripped copy seems to be a little better on the quality, or is it just me?

I guess I'll run through this stack then, I just got 50 verbatim. Curious if the quality will be different? My big screen is looking awful these days compared to the lcd's and plasmas.

What are the manufactured id codes on those 50 Verbatim? If it says MCC003 or MCC004 (these are high quality media), then you don't need to worry about it, unless it's an operator's fault.

Ok I just opened it up, it's 002 the verbatim, the memorex r03 004. The memorex was 16x the verbatim is 4x does this make any difference why it would be 002? New to all of this but I don't wanna keep going back to return this stuff if they are all gonna be 002. Thanks for any info.

The MCC002 is Verbatim's older 4X speed. Their 8X is MCC003 and the 16X is MCC004. You're in good hand, so don't need to panic. Seriously, those Verbatim 4X is top notch, and honestly, I would prefer them over them Ricohjpn. However, people are entitled to their own judgment, so as long as it's not CMC MAG, then you shouldn't need to worry.

Thanks alot man, so the quality is still good on the verbatim. Saved me a trip back to return them heh. Also I wanted to ask they had a deal over there at best buy 29 bucks for 15 8.5gb's memorex though. Better off going with a different name right? This is all new to me so I am just going by what you all tell me. Thanks again for the info.

the quality might be in your t.v. settings Ive not heard of any contrast differences found in the use of either shrink or decrypter do you use all of the defaults??
you might try the quality settings in shrink set the adaptive error setting to smooth I think this will offer limited help w/this problem and the deep analysis will alway's produce a greater quality back-up as it better distributes compression to the parts of the film that can handle it.
if you are not satisfied w/results you might give dvd-rb a go it is for the harshest of critics that don't mind spending some extra time for quality
just look in my sig for link to set-up guide.

I am using Car.Mike's tutorial. No coasters yet everything runs great, I think I might just be digging for artifacts. The tube tv it looks flawless and the lcd screens it looks great. The 55" projection is probably on it's way out or something. I have only been burning the movies no menu's or anything. I did hotshots but I noticed when sheen talks to the indian the subtitle doesn't come up at all. Not a big deal I just don't know why it excluded that part. I burned it twice 1 with english subtitle and 1 without, same outcome.

Yes!,another convert to the good media side. Welcome newb51 to AD also. This is a great place. You just found out the main area in DVD making where what you buy makes a big difference. May your burns be many and your coasters few!

I'm amazed that the media helped so much. Mallrats and Hot shots part 2 are perfect. I can't tell the difference now. Thanks all.
