I have nero 6614 yes the one with all the problems....I have 2 gigs of ram and the 3200 AMD processer with video card of 5900 Nvidia with window xp for home use.

Most of my problems started with the new version but at the same time I remember that I had problems with the old version as well.....

Currently Most of the time I can not get thru the initial burn process before we even start to copy the disc...but what is amazing is that some discs copy very easily....this is really wierd.. ...I am wondering whether it is that my machine now only can copy minus's....I have an nec 3520A ////

My logs seem to be different each time so I am not sure what is up but the one constant is that they all say DMA off......I do appreciate your time in this...... also I would like to know if just copying it to hard drive and then trying to burn it from the hard drive might work better...I do not know how to copy it to hard drive... By the way these discs that I am coping are allowed to be copied I think...they are kind of self help discs and they say in their material that you are allowed 100 copies....

I checked around and found that my downloads have a problem with DMA being off so I did what you are supposed to get the DMA activated by Going to Device Manager and then uninstalled the IDE ....so I rebooted ...when I rebooted and when I went back to check with the primary and secondary channels the message came on that it had discovered some new hardware...so i tried once again to down load with the same problem....

the primary channel had as its main version
    WDC WD 1200JB-99EVA0
the secondary channel had as its master drive
    NEC DVD_RW BD-35201
and the secondary channel had as its slave drive
    Samsung CD-R/RW SW-252F

but the wierd part is that when I clik on IDE the window that comes up does not look like the one in your example. Instead mine says let bios select transfer mode....what does that mean? Maybe that is screwing up my ability to go the advanced section on the primary channel because in my primary channel there is no advanced section and nothing I can click on to look at whether DMA is available? Is this causing a problem?

I finally was able to talk with Nero and they told me that they would have to find an expert to call me back to talk with me about the problem. But they seemed to have heard about the DMA problem...I also updated the firmware with no resolution of the problem. THe wierd part of this is sometimes I can download a DVD and other times not. Since I have some pluses and some minuses I am wondering if the pluses are not downloading but regardless I havea DMA problem...

This is very frustrating so i am wondering if anyone can help here.....thanks in advance for your time...below is a copy of my log...

You obviously know of some of these errors but I will go through the log file and see what I find.

Edit out your serial number before it gets pirated.

As you know these need to be on, go here for a guide
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

your Nero is the buggy version. Uninstall, run this clean tool to remove all traces http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html

and then install this bug free version from either link

    http://httpdl2.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/Nero-6.6.0.18.exe

    This is the recommended method.

yes but I am unable to even copy the disc so how could I download to my hard drive...also what does it mean that my bios is responsible for transfer mode ....is that what is supossed to happen? I have uninstalled it numerous times but I have not tried to use the driver for the NEC yet....I assume i should do it after I get down load the newer version...

    thanks for your help...

At the end of the guide by alkohol there is a link to another post about Nvidia drivers, which you have. Make sure you check that out. Specifically if you cannot get your DMA enabled. This is why yours does not look like what is presented in the guide.

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/323802

You should always copy to your hard drive first. Once the copying is completed you would then start the burn process.

As near as I can tell you are using Nero to copy an ISO from a DVD+R disc, and your NEC is not reading it. This is why you would be getting "Key Medium" errors.

    I find this confusing:
It may be a matter of terminology...
A typical DVD is copied like this:

The original is opened in a ripping program like Shrink or DVD Decrypter.

The files or ISO disc image are copied from the original to a location on your hard drive.

Once there, the files or ISO can be opened in a burning program which burns them to a blank DVD.

I think you may have very good results once we sort out your technique.

There are a bunch of different ways to do this, especially if your DVDs are not encrypted and are smaller than a DVD-5.

I think Nero is a bit of overkill for what you need. I'd download DVD Decrypter and do a simple ISO read to copy the original, and then an ISO write to burn to a blank. For small DVDs, Decrypter is all you need.

One more thing to keep in mind is that DVD burners are not the greatest readers. You would be better off replacing your CD drive with a $30.00 DVD-ROM. It will have a better chance of reading the DVD+R media. This is what I think your most serious problem is. Nvidia drivers and DMA vs PIO are not show stoppers. It just slows things down a bit.
Your error messages do not indicate a problem resulting from that. Your DVD drive has to be able to read the data off the disc before you can even begin to have transfer rate problems!

    Cheers,
    Frank

thanks Frank ....You and Gwendolyn have been very helpful. I think you hit the nail on the head...what I have been doing it using Nero start smart and coping the DVD and then putting another DVD in my NEC and then putting it on the new disc. I have never put anything on my hard drive. I just follow the start smart directions. SO I am not very sophistacated in what i am doing. So I use the words copying to imply that initial phase where I put the DVD in and start to copy it. SOmetimes I can copy it sometimes not....I hope that clarifies it. I think that you and Gwendolyn are correct I need to learn how to use the techniques that use describe on DVD dycripter ....and then ISO (whatever those initials mean)....I do not understand why I was able to copy so many DVD's the way I had with NERO start smart but it seems that i am at a walll ....I will continue to try GWendolyns suggestions to update my NERO and then try to do what you suggest....I will keep you posted. Thanks to you both for your help...

Fast Frank...wow I did the last part o\f the DVD link that Gwendolyn sent me where I removed the IDE Drivers and it worked sort of.... I now have two sets of Drivers for primary and secondary IDE channel(for a total of 4) and also two sets of drivers for the standard dual channel. Have you ever seen something like that before? I am not sure what I did but it seems to have worked because the site now has a different format and it tells me that the DMA is enabled and i can get to the advanced section. But should I redo everything or what is going on? I have never heard of two all all the components on my computer?

Well after alot of work I thought I had my problem fixed ....now I am back to square one. I still do not have DMA solved and in fact can not even find the seperate Driver section from NERO when I do a search on removing programs. But let me start from the beginning. I was unable to get DMA going ....so I tried to get it going by looking at remove programs and I found the drivers as a seperate category under NERO. I went there and deleted just the IDE drivers and lo and behold I found that when I checked the drivers they now looked like the ones you have in your example. IT even said DMA enabled....but there was two of each driver in the devise manager...so I had six things there in IDE. I decided to change the driver once again...but i was unable to find the section saying remove IDE drivers only, so I clicked on something else (in the section about removing programs) and what happened was that all my drivers in my computer got elimenated. So I had to revert back to a previous time in order to get my computer going again. I was able to get it going again but the seperate category of drivers no longer existed in the section about removing programs. SO i used the material that gwendolin gave me to get rid of my nero program competely. I then even eliminated the nero programs on my hard drive as well as used the utilities to get rid of nero on my registry. I then used the link to install a new version of Nero supposedly without bugs. BUt this version came in as an OEM version...and does not have any seperate category for drivers on the uninstall the programs section. BUt I was able to use Device manager to once again remove these drivers but once again my DMA is not enabled. However I was able to copy about 4 or 6 discs before i once again had the same problems as before which is not being able to copy discs. QUestions i have are ...how can get out of the oem version and Get back the drivers on my remove programs section in my computer? I did not download anything but the material that gwendolin gave me (the bug free link of version 66018 see above). SO I only have start smart version of NERO. Maybe I should upgrade the oem version by downloading the other material on nero for my version? Perhaps that would get my OEM version to a place where they have Drivers on my remove programs site.....Any how I seem to be back where I started from....any help would be much appreciated...thanks....
