hey there all, i recently downloaded the first season of black books - they are downloaded as avi files and i would like to burn them to dvd with a menu so i can select which episode - 6 episodes, a trailer for season 2, and a collection of outtakes... unfortunately - i have no idea what to do at all! i've never done this before!!! im tempted to go out and buy all the seasons anyway, cos its only like $40, but i feel that i owe it to myself to solve this problem anyway thanks heaps for anyone who replies - if you can help? thanks, matt
First of all edit out the email address (read the forum rules), And then get a program like Winavi or VSO DivxToDvd you need to convert the avi to .vob files. I think they both cost now but i'm unsure how much they are.I'm using the new DivxToDvd. Next job is to get a DVD Authoring tool TMPGEnc DVD Author or Nero vision express, search these forums for more possible menu creating tools as i just stick with TMPGEnc. Next thing is just to burn the files onto DVD using Nero or CloneDVD 2, i usually burn at a slow speed which is very advisable
yeh i have downloaded those programs before i posted this - the converting thing did it with its logo in the episodes, and then the DVD author thing couldn't open them... i'm no good at these things, is there like an idiot-proof way to do it?
This version should not give you logos when you convert AVI-->DVD: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_encoders/vso_divxtodvd_free.cfm
Burag, have you downloaded the newest DivxToDvd? if you have you need to buy it to remove the logo and then you will be able to open them in your DVD Authouring proggy.
ok i will get this one - do i do multiple files so it puts them in the same folder? or just one at a time with lots of different folders? and how do i do menus? thanks
do you know of a registration key i can get from somewhere? im only gonna be using it this once... :S
You'll need something like TMPGEnc to do menus. And if your looking for a registration key then buy one LOL, their are many ways to locate free registration codes/serails/cracks and keygens just search them in google. TMPGEnc is very easy to use
yeh... well what i had first was i converted all the things into one folder with the program... but then i tried to open it in TMPGenc DVD Author, but they wouldn't open... i just don't get it... me dumb
ok i have converted them into a number of .vub and .ifo files... there are 6 episodes, 1 teaser, and 1 set of outtakes, so there are 8 set of .vub and .ifo things... now what do i do hehe - they are all in the same folder btw - i need to make a menu so it starts at menu and i choose which episode to watch... :S
I do not have any .vob files on my HD, but I have NeroVision Express. Here is how I think this works. Open NVE. Select make DVD Video. Click Add Files and choose DVD Files .VOB from the drop menu. Then add your files. It will automatically add a menu in the next screen. I think you can use Nero Vision Express for 15 days free, or if you have Nero, your Nero serial should work for NVE.
it says its still too big to fit on one dvd-5... :S but the normal dvd has all episodes... hmm why must this be so hard for us stupid people!
Because you haven't learned what's involved. A DVD consists of a Video_TS folder that contains the necessary files for a movie. You don't tamper with them individually unless you're really good. No need to with editing tools anyway. In the Video_TS you have VOB, BUP, and IFO files. The IFO has the controls and the VOB has the video. Most AVI is in Divx, so a conversion has to be done to get the files into the MPEG2 DVD format. There is why you need the conversion tools like DivxToDVD or the Nerovision in the Nero recording suite. As noted, DivxToDVD is now retail and the trial marks the video output. Besides, the tools mentioned for authoring, DVDRemake may do some of the things you need. http://www.dimadsoft.com May or may not, I know it's pretty good for editing. DVDLabPro will definitely do it, but it isn't cheap. By the way, doing menus is a bit complicated, so you have to realize there is something of a learning curve there. All the files together. You may have messed up. Each episode, if downloaded separately should be in a separate Video_TS folder. 8 episodes, 8 file folders. Some discs would have them all in one big folder, but there the structure is already determined in the IFO files for correct playing and the menu is already prepared to point to the correct files. The retail DVDs you get are usually in the 8GB size range and are dual layer, they're DVD9. A DVD5, the common 4.7GB recordable disc, will only hold 4.377GB. That's why there are encoders and transcoders to shrink files to fit the smaller recordable media. DVD Shrink (free), DVDCopy3, CloneDVD, and Rebuilder are some good options, all the retail have trials.
