Ok guys, here's what I'm working with: DVD Player: Toshiba SD-2200 Burner: NEC 2510A Media Identifier: DVD-R:RITEKG04 Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz DVD Shrink 3.1.7.6 DVD Decrypter 3.2.2.0 Ok, so I had no luck with the previous DVD+R discs I was using. They were Fuji 4x (DVD+R:RICOHJPN-R01-002). The movies play on my friend's PS2 and on my PC, so they're not coasters. The goal here is to get the movies to work in my Toshiba player. According to videohelp.com, my player will play DVD-R's. So far, the only burned DVD my player has played is a Memorex 4x DVD+R (DVD+R:CMC MAG-F01-000). I have been using ScubaPete's brief guide. I just got the Ritek's today and was sure they would work. Arrg, this is so frustrating! So I'm wondering if there's anyone on this board who knows about the different things I might try to make a burned disc work in my DVD player. I really don't want to buy another player, cause it works just fine for all non-burned movies. Does anyone have any ideas on how to change the settings in order to make the burned disc work in a Toshiba SD-2200? I'm willing to lose some discs to experiments, but I thought I should post on here first. I have Nero available if you guys think that might make a difference. ScubaPete, any ideas?
Stevievai, It seems that your player isn't very compatible with any media ... at least according to videohelp.com I read an a comment, don't know if it will help. Here's the Are you able to select the compatibility mode on your players?
I saw that post a while ago, but I don't know what it means by compatibility mode. Does anyone know what "compatibitity mode" means? I private messaged Jer, he's the guy who wrote that. Never heard back. Maybe if I can figure out what he means by compatibility mode, I might have a chance.
I looked in the manual for the player, and there's nothing in there about changing the settings for the type of DVD format. There's gotta be a way to get the DVD-R's to work. I have some theories, let me know if these might have anything to do with playback: 1. is it possible that my player won't play a DVD without a region code? 2. will it make a difference whether I use Nero or Decrypter to burn the discs? 3. maybe this "compatibility mode" has something to do with the way the DVDs are burned, maybe in Nero? Thanks for your help guys, let me know if you have any theories of your own on this issue.
Possible ... Only way to find out is to try it doubtful ... Best thing to do is try your backups in another standalone player.
All of my backups work in my friend's PS2. I guess it's now time to start experimenting. Hopefully, I'll make a correct guess sooner, rather than later, after having used a bunch of discs!

showoff, Did you read all of the posts? Your question has been answered ... That player isn't very compatible with any media. You can check your players compatibility here http://www.videoplayers.com/dvdplayers. What you can also do is test your backups in another standalone player, or perhaps buy another dvd player.
