help buying os version

    i understand that 10.4 is a upgrade only
    so, this means I have to buy 10.3 first, correct

    I want to install an os on a completly empty hd
    so what os version do i need to buy to put the entire os on a brand new hd

    just purchase mac os x tiger and install a hole new operating system
