I just purchase a Samsung Blue Ray DVD player, and an Onkyo HT-SR800 7.1 Home Theater System.I connected my Samsung player to the HDMI input on the Onkyo, and the analog cable 5.1 connections from the Samsung to the Onkyo.I set the Onkyo up with just the 5.1 speaker setup, I used the Onkyo microphone, and ran the automatic setup program. Sound came from all of the speakers, and the speaker setup program completed. I unhooked the microphone as instructed, and then put a dvd in the player. At first it seemed to be working great, the sound quality was fantastic, and I get hear sound be channeled out of the different speakers.Everything seemed to be working great, with the strange exception, that I can not hear any of the characters speaking in the movie. I am getting all the other sounds from the center speaker, but no voices.Has anyone had this happen before? Any help, or input on this problem, would be greatly appreciated.
I am having the same problem as well. Trying to watch Saving Private Ryan and the movie came in with great sound, I was ready for some action. The boats were drifting on the water. Then some of the guys starting throwing up...and I couldn't hear it. The sound of the waves were great, but no sound from the voice. Tom Hanks starts his speal but I can't here it. It was one heck of a let down. So, yeah, you are not alone. I'm not sure what the problem is here. My problem is on my dvd-rom drive on my computer. As I said, great ambience, no fricking voices. Actually, I can hear there voices but it is extremely drowned out, very low volume. I turned the volume up and it hardly helps. It sounds like they're whispering.
Try this, it might help. http://hometheater.about.com/od/hometheateraudiobasics/qt/centerchannelqt.htm Koolwabbit
