Hi, I urgently need help with this problem that i have on windows xp. The thing is i have internet on my computer and a router connected to my modem so that i can use it wirelessly on my laptop. Last week, i woke up and found out that the internet isnt working on my pc anymore however it works fine on my laptop. I call my isp provider and he tells me the ip address is fine and the pc may be the problem. However, i ran a virus scan and spyware scan and the pc is now clean. The internet still wont work on the computer i have but does on my laptop even though thats through a router. Also a download update icon (the yellow exclamation shield) appears on my icon tray everytime i resart the pc but i cant click on it as it doesnt open. Anybody know why net access on my pc is being blocked? Sorry for the long post but i really need help. Thanks.

Is your computer using a static IP or dynamic IP? If static, make sure you have a valid DNS address. If dynamic, do the following.

Go to start, and then choose run
    type "cmd" and press OK
type "ipconfig /release" and press enter
type "ipconfig /renew" and press enter
type "ipconfig /all" and make sure that you have a valid IP address (probably 192.168.x.x) and DNS address

Do you have your router set as your default gateway? If so, can you ping it? If you can, you may need to run a program called "winsockxpfix.exe" (link here).

Unfortunately, there are several things that can cause this, so you'll have to perform a trial and error approach. Report back and let us know your progress. Even if you've already solved it, it may help someone else in the future.
