okay a cupole of days i was using both of them and then after i closed those programs, they dissapered the next time i tried to access them (i dont know why). so i googled this and was told to go to add/remove windows componennets ,clicked it open accessories and utilitys ,details /accessories, click details again and clickced on ms paint and the caluclator to be installed. while the installtion was going through, it asked me to insert my windows xp copy but i dont have one, thus ending the installtion. what do i do?

    i also did the following:
start /run type in calc.exe but to no avail

any help would be appreciated thanks

What if you do System Restore to the date where you had been able to use them and see if it will solve the problem.

    Yes.

System Restore will put the system back to the state it was on the day the restore point was created.

won't loose data but any programs installed after that restore date will have to be re-installed. do a file find on the hd for calculator & paint & make new shortcuts to desktop.

Cant you just go to 'Add/Remove Windows Components', uninstall these progs, and then install them again?
