HELP!!! can't install second sata hardrive

hi everyone

i just bought a sata harddrive (500gb) and installed it as a secondary harddrive drive.

when i got into to windows vista, it confirm that it has detacted a new hardware and successfully install it but cant when i check my computer the icon is not there. my master hardrive is there and the dvd rom but i cant see the sata harddrive.

the problem which i think it is that my first harddrive is a IDE and putting a sata as slave will not work, is this the problem

im using a D975xbx mother board

so could someone please help me out here, i assume that this is a very small issue as may i coudl set this in bios mode but i already tried all i could but cant get it to work so coudl someone help

FIRST, HAVE YOU PARTITIONED AND FORMATTED THAT DRIVE?
I PREFER PARTITION MAGIC FOR THIS.

 

well the drive is brand new so shouldn't need any formating and i cant anyway i cant see the drive on my computer but when i check in the bios the sata harddrive is there

 

Internal hard drives need to be formatted before they can be used, they do not come pre-formatted unlike external drives.
